Not all that sure I like where the kick arm will be resting at ...

Been eyeballing how to go about fixing it where it's not so laid back ..

One idea I came up with is to remove some meat from the bump pad in the adapter and make up a new bumper plate ...
Or grind off a little from Baker's kick gear stop pin ...

Perhaps the owner will be good with it the way it is ??
Just looks a bit odd to me ..

    Here's a better thought ...

Grind down the weld, press the pin out of the gear, make up a slug to fill the hole and weld in ...

Drill new hole install the pin and weld it up ..

Ya know, maybe Baker has some bastard gears ready to go, sure would save a bunch of work on my end if they did...

      Well now ...

Thought that with acquiring the Vegas adapter and mainshaft would have this job pretty much done and over, ready to ship to the owner ..
It was almost a full half inch narrower than what we first had .. Which wasn't about to work without going back to the Oem mainshaft and using a screw on shaft extension ...

He's got in mind of how he wants it to look in the Ness Digger frame and that's giving us fits ..

Need to have the straight Baker arm in order to have the look he's after ... Tranny is still too long for the look he wants ...
As cool as the ART hyd kick cover is, it's not fitting in to how the finish look of the build should be ..

Soooooo .... We are in the backup mode (Once again) with thinking of how we can shave a few inches off the total length of the tranny with finding another kick cover that will meet the needs ... ??

I'm in favor of the Baker hyd kick cover, pretty sure the straight kick arm will have no problems with the swing, but the owner thinks it's a bit ugly and won't fit in with the rest of the build ...

Anybody have an idea on how to cure our dilemma, Please speak up ...
(And don't say go hunt up a Little John's 5-speed tranny, that would be like hunting Hitler's lost Gold Train)

          Back to the C-P 4-speed

Got the mainshaft ball bearing housing that's been on back-order ...

Time to load up the bare case with sweating in these parts ...

Going with the later Torrington caged bearings on the countershaft so I had to change out the case bushings to use the smaller shaft ..

Going to roll the dice ...

Since the ART will not allow a straight kick arm to be used, we are attaining another kick cover that will ...
              It too is hyd.

The new to us adapter needs to be flowed into the trans case for the best look ..

Lots of time and welding went down on the old adapter, which won't be used ...
All that work will need to be done all-over again ..

And once the new kick cover gets in my greasy hands, it to most likely, will also need to be flowed in .. ??

Hoping that it will be a bolt up deal and not require any machine work to make it work .. ??

Well so much for that ^^ sh#t ...

Had to hone to fit the kick shaft ..
And still can't take the kick shaft nut down to full torque causing it to lock up ..

The good news is with the new S-D kick cover the straight Baker kick arm has no problem working ...

This problem is still with us ...

I might have a cure for the leaning arm .. ??
                  _____________________________________________

The cure would be to saw off the welded in pin flush with the face of the gear ...

Make a new pin locate drill and weld in ..

Moving the stop pin 20* would get it in the ballpark ...
                  (Goodbye Baker warranty)

I did it his way ...

Sliced a bit of meat off the stop pad and made a shorter bump plate ...

I ain't done with it yet, Tatt ...

Still got a lot of welding and dressing in to do on the adapter to case and kick cover ...

Getting to this point was a colossal undertaking to say the least ...

Took about 5/32" of meat off the alum pad then shorten up the bumper plate ...

Still got the problem with not being able to torque down the kicker cover shaft nut with the ware washer installed ...
I'm thinking the manufacture made the kick cover to work without using the ware washer that is supposed to be there on the kick shaft before it's inserted into the cover ..

I called the company to find out if this was the case .. ??
No one was at home the first day I called, the next day got to talk to the order taker ... She had no clue about the shaft needs .... Said she would have a chat with a tech and call me back ....
                                So far I haven't got a call back ...

The ware washer is there to keep the kick shaft from cutting into the cover, as ware comes into the picture from usage over the years ... It's replaceable ...
Could put it together without the washer or cut a counterbore for the washer to sit down in like the Oem cover was made ...

I would love to know if that was their game plan with doing away with the ware washer .. ??

Does look like they intended for a washer to be used ... Be a lot of slop without a washer..
But not one with the factory dimensions ??
Could surface grind the Oem washer down to fit or do a counterbore to the cover ...

Going to do a counterbore ...

Got a call from the head-cheese and had a chat about this problem ..
Explained my dilemma, after telling him I was going to do a counterbore to his kick cover ...
