    Default Oil Filter 85 FXR

    Hi All
I keep these things on the shelf, but as I reached for the filter (i bought from an HD dealer) yesterday for my 85 FXR, I noticed the following part no. on the box ' 63731-99A' (a Super premium 5 filter) . Thinking I had a twin-cam filter by mistake , I checked on HD's website, that claims it can be used for Evos. I thought there were differences internally between twink and Evo filters? Anyone know ? Thanks!

Yes, there is a difference. The shovel, evo, and XL filters are 20 micron, and the twink filters are 10 micron. That makes the twink filter more restrictive to flow, which is not a good thing for filters on the return side of the system.

About that specific part number, I know nothing.

Description says for '99 and later twin cam and evo. The '99 and later evos are XLs.

Ha- checked on Harley's part finder, says to use 63805-80A, which i've just picked up from the nearest dealership.
I never knew Harley had an on-line parts finder. Useful tool.
