DIY Paint Stand for tanks, fenders, etc.

Something similar might have been posted before, but I couldn't find anything doing a search. Thought some folks might find this useful.

Getting back into custom painting after a long hiatus. Needed some stands for tanks and fenders, but everything I was finding online that was specific to the task were being sold around $300.

Came across this handy dandy roller stand browsing through the local Harbor Freight today. Assembled everything but the roller head. Then simply cut up some pieces of wood from my scrap pile, assembled using wood glue and screws, and used some 3/8 bolts to hold the tanks in place.

Slick and beats the shit out of hanging them off wires. Imma get one of those HF stands to play with. They have potential. Thanks for posting.

One painter I met did the same thing but with cheap engine stands so he could rotisserie his tanks. He slid pieces of exhaust pipe together after tacking nuts on the outer tube so he could lock it to the inner tube with bolts used as set screws.

That or equivalent be easy to add to your stand if you want rotisserie action.

I have been hanging onto an old wheel hub from a friend's Toyota minivan we did breaks and a hub on last year. Was planning on using it in conjunction with an old rim and some pipe to make a sort of lazy susan type tank stand. Don't think I'm going to worry with it now, these are cheap and will do just fine. I painted on a very similar homemade stand which was just a bunch of scrap tubing welded together about 15 years ago with a friend when I was last heavy into the custom paint thing and it worked great.

I'd save a spindle to make a lazy susan welding stand instead. Example "rollout wheels" as used by pipe weldors can be found online.

Dude!!!! This gives me an idea on what to do with the scrap wood I've got in my garage/shop!.
