    Shovelhead Ignition

1977 FLH... I’m getting nothing but clicking out of the starter relay... turn the key , switch on Run, push the button and click click click ... 2 prime kicks , turn ignition on and set switch to “ Run “ kicks right over and runs like a MF’er ... replaced relay and get the same results... tried jumping the solenoid and got nowhere... replaced said solenoid and nothing still ... appreciate any advice

I'd load test the battery at an auto store or buy a load tester (cheap and very handy for all 12V vehicles).

Those starter systems are rather finicky. Ensure all wiring connections including grounds are excellent.

BTW never jump off a running car because the bike reg may fry trying to regulate the automobile alternator.

I put it on a charger overnight, starting to think it’s no good .
I had it charged to 14.70 on a volt meter couple days ago and had the same results. Some of the wiring was bad so I started replacing the bad stuff .

Battery is gone. Get a new battery and make sure you have voltage coming out of the regulator.

It seems like 90% of problems you see like this stem back to the battery.

Thanks guys , I’ll drop a new battery in and go from there . It would be great if it’s the battery, but I did have a chance to tighten up all the wiring.
                Thanks again
