Had that happen once when the starter button on the bars didn't fully release. Worth a look?

Ya might have a bearing trying to lock up ...

If so, it will be doing damage to it's counter parts ...

inspect all the bearings, primary chain, shoe, you might need to dig deeper in order to eyeball the clutch basket bearing, spin the tranny clutch gear and see it it feels rough ... May find the trap-door bearing bad ...

Think I'd slide the generator out and give it a quick start. It has that sound they get when the generator bolts are loose. So it might be a bearing dropping the armature out of line.

Since your clutch is acting up might be a good idea to dig a bit deeper ...
In order to spin check the clutch hub & clutch basket bearings the primary chain needs to be removed ...

If it creeps when in NEUTRAL, the clutch gear bearing and/or bushing and possibly the mainshaft are bad. That would be very unusual.

You will need a clutch spring compressor. This is a must. You can fab one up pretty easily.
