my shifter has a bolt bottom welded thru the bottom to keep it from falling off but It won't come off which is keeping me from working on the clutch should I cut off the shifter or a part of the shifter lever arm any recommend ?

Cut off the shift lever, being careful not to damage the shaft. You will have to pull the transmission to replace the shaft.
Three inch cutoff wheel in a die grinder would make quick work of it.

You will have to have a clutch compressor tool to work on the clutch. You will need a manual for how-to and set-up.

You can make a compressor easily.

Image search "ironhead clutch spring compressor" for a variety of homemade examples.

Don't forget to make a locking bar if you plan on removing the primary drive. This will be a good opportunity to make one even if you don't.

Disconnect the battery before you remove the primary cover.

No battery or wires connected might have to do a new wiring setup

Good! The best thing to do with old wiring is shitcan it.

You can make a test ignition harness with little effort to run the engine after you figure it's sorted out.

If you've not done a compression test you can do that with the kicker or if the engine is out of the bike, by using the electric starter. What do the spark plugs look like? (Pics help us advise you!)

There are plenty of simplified wiring diagrams. Circuit breakers are good. Fuses are shit. If you've not done much wiring, study first, buy quality supplies and tools online (NOT the auto store shit) and have at it. Best to practice both soldering and crimping on scrap first if you're new or it's been a while.
