Default Modifying aluminum billet control lever

When I bought some billet aluminum controls from the internet I took them apart and found
out that the shifting shaft had no bolt or screw holding the splined shaft from coming loose.
I left it stock for a while but after a couple rides the shift lever got very loose.

I drilled a pilot hole and followed up with a 13/63 drill or .203 thousandths drill.
The I tapped the hole for a 1/4"-20 bolt.

There was nothing holding the splined shaft from slipping out.

A pinch bolt in the lever from the gearbox held this side together.

Good way to correct their lazy design. BTW if you're not going to separate the splined parts from their current clock position a quick degreasing and some Loctite will eliminate play and future wear/slop.

Aftermarket controls are cheap to manufacture because billet aluminum is cheap to buy and easy to machine, but it's also soft and delicate.

Yes I agree. It would have been easy to finish it properly.
