BDL lock plate not working?

I bought a BDL lock up plate and there's no locking it. I'm trying to torque both the basket and the front pully. It just spins and spins. has anyone had issues, if so what did you end up doing?

What spins the basket and the pulley or the plate?????????? Post a pic.... Thanks

You need a jam bar to hold the pulleys still while you torque the motor nut. That plate then allows you to torque the clutch hub nut.

I'll get a pic up here once I get back from the garage. the tool locks the basket to the hub and both those and the drive chain's pully spins as well. Just remembered I'm an idiot, and should probably have the chain installed to lock up the pulley.

The jam bar is just a flat bar that fits on a diagonal between the motor sprocket or pulley and the clutch shell. Obviously, the length is critical, and it should be as wide as practical, and the ends radiused. I use steel for the chain primaries, and aluminum for the belt drives. I've ended up with six or eight for the various bikes I've worked on.

you lock the clutch basket/pulley and the front pully/sprocket with an alloy bar depending if you are doing a left or right hand thread like this...……….

I just use the correct length 3/8 extension...........

I have done that as well with a stock chain primary, but on belt drives I use an alloy bar & in the past I have even used a hardwood bar so as not to bugger the belt pulleys
