The earth has gone through normal heating and cooling cycles for eons. Take a look at before, during, and after, the ice age. "Global warming" is an invention of the liberal propaganda machine.

That said, these fires that Australia is dealing with now is tragic on many levels. The worst I remember seeing in my lifetime.

That's because it's never happened in many many years............... I didn't believe in global warming before but I do know........

If you don't believe it that's fine with me........ It's your kids and there kids that will have to deal with it in the future............ real or not it's here now...........

Ok after thinking about it and since me saying the words Global warming and this thread is turning political......... I'm changing what I said to the earth is warming....... It's for damn sure hotter now than it was when I was a kid so it's warmer to me......... If it's not hotter now than it was when you were a kid your lucky...... Or your 15 years old.............

Now I would like someone that thinks this is a cycle to tell me when it's going back the other way????????????

97 percent of scientists cite accredited, verified, worldwide science which says that MAN is directly contributing to the warming of the planet. Yes there are fringe "authorities" who disagree, but then there are also those who believe that the world is flat and that aliens visit us regularly.

I don't care where on the political spectrum you land, we are damaging this planet and it is going to defend itself one way or the other.

187 people did not set Australia on fire, they helped no doubt, but there is much more at play here.

Good point - And last I checked the Australian authorities say they have arrested 24 people not 200.

It does appear that their government is as disfunctional as ours.

It is expensive and one of the little things nobody thinks about till there's a gigantic, budget squeezing, fuel load built up.

Doesn't even have to be the fault of the current administration, but they'll get the blame anyway if something sets it off.

The amount of native Eucalyptus trees in Australia doesn't help, and has been an issue in California wildfires. I love these trees, and the ones in my garden smell fantastic on a hot summer night. But their sap, dead leaves and bark are flammable, in a fire they literally explode showering flaming debris. The sap, shedded bark ( they shed a lot!) and dead leaves accumulate in vast amounts around them too.

The problem with the fires in both Australia and California, isn't how they get started. It's because it's drier there than it was in the recent past. Because of climate change, it doesn't rain there as much as it used to. The weather patterns have changed. No amount of raking the forest floor is going to make the trees hold more moisture when there isn't any.

Yes, climate changes on it's own. The vast deserts of the middle east were at one time swamps. All that life that was in those swamps is what turned into all that oil. The very place where I sit (west end of Lake Erie) was covered by a glacier a mere 12,000-15-000 years ago. And 300 years ago the are was known as the great black swamp. Many early settlers died of malaria from the mosquitoes. Man drained the swamp, and now it's a lot of farmland and towns and cities.

But, mankind is causing the climate to change at an accelerated rate. One of the things that used to make me skeptical was trading in carbon credits. Just another scheme for rich people to get richer. But I've come around. The one thing I never hear anyone talk about is the root cause of mankind producing all that CO2. It's overpopulation. There are too many of us on the planet. We won't do anything about it. Nature, however, will.

I will continue to pray for the people, flora and fauna of Australia.
