Got these old Sporty bars in my garage and I would like to narrow them a bit. Heating with a propane torch will enable the bends to be pulled together a bit but my question is.... would I 'quench' the bars after bending or lay them aside to cool down naturally ? Just playing around as I can't ride !
Handlebar bending with torch ?

Quenching serves no purpose in this instance. I'd practice on scrap to ensure your torch gets hot enough. (A proper OA torch is insanely useful so you might want to score one, used US-made torches like Victor, Smith and Harris are good choices.)

If you pack them with sand and plug the sand as tight as possible you stand less chance of collapsing them in the bends.

In the good old days or maybe not so good a friend of mine used a 1" hickey bender to modify HD bars. He would lay the bike on the ground and bend one side of the bar before laying the bike over on the other side and doing the same bend. The hickey benders are used on pipe. A plumber or electrician may help.Comment
