    Vulcan 800 Issue

Need some guidance on the most recent issue I'm having with this chop. I bought the bike used and have been doing body/frame mods since I've had it. The bike starts and runs fine while in neutral. If I let the clutch out while in neutral, the engine stops immediately. If I shift to 1st gear, the engine stops just the same. The owner before me had been all in the wiring as they had re-wired turn signals in the front and rear which are not currently working. Not sure what this issue could be. If your familiar with these bikes please speak up. I know nothing much about them at this point and I am learning as I go. It's been a fun and at times frustrating ride so far.

Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated.

    Update:

I bypassed the kickstand, clutch and neutral safety switch to finally get it running. Thanks everyone for the guidance. Everything else is cosmetic and I shouldn't have any problems that I foresee.

Sounds like the previous owner had no business working on the bike.

You just need to buy a Clymer's workshop manual and on the back pages is a color wiring diagram.
The clutch switch on the clutch lever perch could be unhooked or missing.

Sounds like a kickstand switch problem.

Clutch switch is there. As soon as it starts to engage the motor kills

I'm looking into the clutch switch ....it's hooked up. As soon as it's engaged is when the motor kills. I'm gonna get the Clymer manual.

If it's not electrical it could be carb. Float level or too lean.

                        It is the kickstand switch.
                        WTF is a clutch switch?

That doesn't mean it works electrically. I bypass those on personal bikes, ditto sidestand switches.

You can probably find a schematic. Check these out or search for "vulcan service manual downloads".

Search Vulcan forums for safety switch bypass info or post there if needed. Post your solution here to help the next guy.
