    Default S&S Panhead value?

What do you think a 93 S&S panhead is worth? I have the opportunity to buy one tomorrow. Its a complete motor - carb, pipes, etc.
    thx

Visually it’s in great shape, going down tomorrow to do a compression test on it . it’s supposed to have low mileage but we will see. What should I expect for psi? I’m thinking somewhere around 135? I know it really all depends on various factors but that has always been my go to minimum number

    Isn't that for NEW parts??????????

S$S parts are over priced and over rated anyways................

Any take out motor, always figure the cost of a rebuild into the price. If it were a good running motor, chances are it will still be in the bike, running. Take outs from wrecks are a little different animal.

For example, if the new one is $6600, using Drag's number, and it costs $3000 to fully rebuild it, the price should be well shy of $3600. Otherwise, you are better off buying new, and getting the new warranty. $2500 may even be too high, unless you know that specific motor's history.

S&S has had occasional quality control issues, unfortunately. And their prices have risen steeply since the turn of the century. But, their products are still THE industry standard. I've certainly had good service from their parts that I have used and sold over the past few decades. Overrated? Hardly. Overpriced? Compared to what? HD parts? Don't kid me.

Not kidding you at all and not trying to change your mind............. Just my opinion........

Since you sell S$S parts I don't blame you for taking up for them.............

I never have sold there new parts and never will so I'm not one sided..............

S&S has been making motors for a long time . I guess the year it was built would help determine the value. The gentleman above could ( possibly) through experience tell you about the evolution of their mechanical history and design changes.
A 93" Panhead from 2000 may be much different from a 93" Panhead from 2019. All hypothetically of course being that I don't know the actual time period S&S has been making them.

I'd offer a lowball price because the competition isn't just engines, it's titled bikes with those engines, real Pan engines etc.

Deals on S&S crate engines are out there. My Evo-style V124 is brand new. Seller paid over 8 from J&P, I got it for 4500 new in the wrapper. Last AMCA Denton there was a nice S&S generator Shovel clone chop neat as a pin asking 6500. Hotrod parts cost a lot more off the bike, and it's often worth parting out otherwise good stock-ish bikes because the components sell easier than the complete machine.

Never go shopping hungry and never marry what you can pimp. Ensure the engine which interests you was not "invaded by idiots" unless you are rich.

Steg von Heintz posted it on a Seedy X Facebook thread. Since he's been around forever I presume he's connected. Their site is up but IIRC it's been up and was left in place without change.
