Fuel Flow Issue

I am chopping a vulcan 800. I put a aftermarket peanut style gas tank on. The stock tank/petcock had a vacuum line between the petcock and the carburetor. The petcock that I am running now doesn't have a vacuum line hook up so I capped off the line from the carburetor. Is the vacuum line a necessity for the bike to run smooth or will it affect the fuel flow in any way to run it like this?

You have done it right.

The vacuum petcocks are designed to shut off fuel flow automatically when the motor is not running, even if the lever is "on."

The vacuum line, if not used, should (must) be capped as you have done.

If you are having fuel delivery problems with the set-up you have now, look at the petcock itself, the fuel filter, and the venting of the tank (either through the cap, or the vent line(s) and any vacuum/ pressure valves).
