Default How do you guys keep rubber parts like new?

Was disassembling my forks and started thinking about decay on small rubber parts like bushings, dust covers, carb boots, etc.

How do you guys avoid dry rot and keep things flexible and supple? (go ahead and make all your jokes now)

I'm not quite sure where I picked this up, but somehow I got it into my head that a cleaning and light coat of WD-40 kept things energized. It's always seemed like it's worked for me.

A 50 /50 mix of wintergreen oil and xylene boiled into them, then soaked for a while, will soften the rubber gaskets and such that have gotten harder than a preachers prick Sunday morning.

Buy spare soft parts when you can get them. Nothing lasts forever so stock a lifetime supply. It's convenient and allows looking for deals at leisure.

I don't have magic potion advice, but, i park my rides in the shade in preference to in the sun. UV kills soft parts.

Stock em , and store them right is good advice.

Remember too , consumables means just that!!

I hope that's just wiped on the sidewalls unless you live in the desert. I don't silicone my tires. If they're old enough to crack that's a fine signal to replace them because the REST of the rubber is as old as cracking sidewalls.

Armor AllŪ Protectant products are ideal for protecting, shining and cleaning your car tires. Just spray onto surface, let penetrate and wipe off for a great shine and long-lasting protection. However, these products should not be used on cycle tires or tire tread due to slipperiness.

Armorall may not be advisable to use on tires, but it does work wonders on vinyl seats.

Maybe you're right Farmall, I guess I should have added some laughing face after my sarcasm.

The gold standard for face rejuvenation is Dr Farmall's Hand Whipped Facial Masque.

i steal my wife's makeup removal facewipes. She gets real pissy about it but they do the job and don't harm the rubber.
I use them on my grips, floorboards, seat and other little bits n pieces.

I prefer hippy tears, and unicorn cum. Although unicorn cum is getting harder to find these days. Donkey cum will work in a pinch, but the viscosity is lower.

Re: Bringing the new guys up to speed on Oscar.
So the backstory is that Oscar complained to administration about Budahood Vato's nude chick pics in his classified ads. When I called his sexuality into question he exploded with a basically "How dare you?!" and ever since... well... he's just axe grinding. Best to ignore the fool. Most of those insults were directed at me so don't worry about it.
