Thanks. Yeah, I'll rebuild it eventually. Hopefully insurance will cover it well enough. I don't think the motor was damaged so that's a positive!

So the insurance company is saying that this bike is only worth $14k. They'd total it with a $4,500 buy back option. I'm going to get screwed on this unless I can somehow prove that it's worth more.

Look on ebay and see what just the motor is selling for........ The motor alone is worth 14K............

Would printing out the sheet on similar machines from the Mecum's auction site help?

Perhaps a professional appraisal would help? Which should be good for you because you have build pics and such to offer.

    Any receipts laying around?

Which insurance company are we talking about?

I so, so feel your pain right now. The only thing keeping me from going nuts on mine is that I worked in the industry ( tangentially ) for 25+ years. The adjusters job is to get you to agree to a number that let's them walk away clean and quickly, they actually have to do reporting on how quickly they resolve claims.

Also keep in mind, if the other party was found at fault ( and they were insured ), your insurance will recover the money they give you from the other drivers company.

I know not everyone will agree, but this is where a decent lawyer will help you out. The deal you want is that you will pay them 1/3 commission on what they recover ABOVE the original insurance company offer. In my case my lawyer is a family friend...

Hang in there and keep fighting for the right results, that is what I am doing.

Working on getting an independent appraisal done.

The only receipts i have are for parts from the build. It was my dad's bike.

The driver at fault had Safeco insurance.

I have an attorney on the case. Definitely going to push for a better settlement. They're going by NADA apparently.

Well it was restored completely so if they go with Excellent condition NADA has a '47 EL at like $41k. Hopefully you can get that and then buy your bike back from the insurance company. That's just the numbers off the website.

    Best of luck man!

As sad as your Knuck is looking now, it can be built back to better than it was ...

At the moment you need time to heal and wait for the check ....
(I can help you spend the money... )

When you get ready, give a shout out to the CC Boys ...
    .... We're here to help ....

Thanks man! Heading in for one more surgery this afternoon. If all goes well I should be able to start wrenching again in a month or two.
