After my thread pitch faux pas, you may not want to hear any more of my opinions, BUT, here goes:
I like the 2.60:1 upgrade for any FLH, unless it's pulling a sidecar. With the first gear kit, you probably want to replace the countershaft second gear and the 1-2 shift clutch, and both shift forks.
The looseness you are seeing is probably a worn out main drive gear bushing, and probably the mainshaft that it runs on. Replacement of these parts runs into $$$. If your main drive gear is so old that it doesn't have a seal, you can bore it for one at the same time you are replacing the bushing. Or, buy an Andrews main drive gear ready to go. Check the diameter of the mainshaft where the main drive gear runs. Wear will be apparent.
