Total Motor/Trans Rebuild on a Bone Stock 1974 XLCH

This scooter been sitting (In many boxes) in my shop for a few years, I did a trade for it with thoughts of building back to it's glory days ....

Reason it was took apart, the owner was going to clean it up and paint all parts back to the Oem look...

The PO has three other bikes and the trade was for labor on one of em.

Being I have two that are keepers, this CH was just going to be put together nicely and flipped....
I bought up a few new parts for it and added em to the box count but didn't jump into the build...
Told a Buddy that I would sell it as is, he offered to buy it, we agreed on a price and it's still sitting in the same spot that it been sitting...

He wants me to go though the motor to make sure all is well ... I'm pretty sure he will want some ponies out of it, so we may be doing a stroker .. ???

Also wants me to assemble the rest of the scoot... This part of the build will go back as a flat-track look, kinda a shame not to build it back stock cause all the parts are there to do so...

May turn out to be a interesting build.. ???

Going to get this on the build table soon and do a tear down .... Have NO idea what I'll find lurking inside ... Hoping to find all kinds of performance goodies ... Like cams, stroker and XLR valves ..... 1974 was a long time ago ...

Been thinking about putting this hair dryer on it .. ??

Huffers are sexy and would make for an interesting build thread.

Does customer have the coin for total gut rehab to take the ponies? A bored, stroked and blown IH would be interesting.

It certainly will get deep into the pockets ....

Just a common Ironhead fresh-up will cost a bunch of coin ...

Start throwing plating and over the above motor goodies and before you know it ya got thousands into it...
These types of builds will snow-ball really fast ...

Would love to see this happen
An Ironhead turbo project passed though my hands a few years back. Kinda regret selling it.
Only work I had put into the pile of parts was to flow and dual plug the heads.
Still have the stroker flywheels if you're interested

            What stroke are they...?
If they are 4-5/8" or better, yeah, lets talk ...

Will be starting the tear down today...

Got the game plan nailed down, going 4-5/8" stroke and 3-7/16" bore ....
That will up the cubes 25 more than it came from the Mo-Co with ..
From 61 inch to 86 inch,

Dug it out and got it as far as seeing the light of day ...

Been on the horn nailing down some of the speed parts that will be going into the critter ...

Since it's getting cams an early cover with a magneto would offer a sexy way to ignite the mix.

Not sure what he has in mind for the ign. ... ??

I'm going to suggest one of these, being this model has the tach drive ..

Just got to wade in the water some ....

Some buy horsepower to use it, some for the stats. This also explains the huge engines and expensive Baker six speeds in show bikes which can't corner.

At least the compression braking should be stout!

                        Yeah ..... I think a front brake would be a good idea .. !!

These cases are in dang good condition for what we're fixing to do to them ...

Agricultural farming equipment is SO interesting!

(The first pix is such a clean bike, so rare to see them stock-ish & unmolested!) I used to have a 1960 with the original pogo solo seat, I sure regret that one going away. I dont miss the generator issues and difficulty starting or the parts falling off,,, But I still miss that bike.
