That's a good thing, the L73 to 76 Ironhead cases are well made and suited for doing "Hot-Rod" work to...
Tranny case is beefy, that's a huge plus over the earlier cases..

Got a bit of tig welding to do to build up the deck for the larger bore ...
Bunch of headwork is on the menu, gotta plug and move the head bolt holes outboard, again for that super large bore... Also raconteur the chambers to match bore....

It's all good .... Not a shame by no means, my over opinionated friend ...

Better to use good parts for a superior performance engine then spending more time and money on junk needing rework. Nothing goes to waste anyway, especially if it's in Dragstews stash.

A (properly done) hot rod vs. a stock turd is never a shame. "I love the way a stock Ironhead runs and rides" is a mighty rare statement. The factory should have put XR-1000 style heads and XR-750 style aluminum jugs on the damn things around 1971 then done the completely superior Evo Sporties years earlier. If they weren't born with Harley stickers they'd be as popular as Allstate twingles and they helped nearly kill the company. I used to flip them until Evos nuked that market.

OTOH they're fine for show bikes and hot rods because they look cool and increased displacement makes respectable HP.

Best to build it in order to scientifically test for shame or absence thereof.

          I fucking love science!

Damn nice looking to be a stock bike, Hope it ends up looking just like that in the end..................

Now if your going drag racing yes it's a little slow for the strip.............

Now that exact bike with a little more power would be sweet..........

Jesse I was thinking about what you said.......

You know how much I like a Stock bike............ So why do you think I would look at this bike any differently that I do any other??????????

I'm sure the bike will be right when your finished........

Just as long as it looks like the bike in the pic at the top of this page that is........ LOL

I know where you are coming from ...

This scooter should go back together looking stock, since all the parts are here to do so....
And that was my intensions when I owned it, but now that it's no longer mine and the new owner has his own ideas on how to build it .....

                    All I can say is .... https://youtu.be/xCc-RWIp7XU

                    AND ....

Well Guys ... Got a deal here for some of the old parts that came out of this motor that we won't be having a need for ..

All of these parts will be sold as a package deal ... Lots of miles are yet to be had from em ... !! $450 or best offer ....

You can find these parts in the Classifieds

                      edit: Yo Guys...
Just lowered the Dollar on this package deal ... $400 will get ya all these stock parts ...

                        Speaking of parts ....

Some of the needed parts are beginning to show up ....

Thoughts are to start at the bottom and work up ...

Next to order could be the Carrillo Rods or perhaps Flywheels ...
Will be using the S&S Sprocket shaft with the huge taper in the wheel ... We certainly don't want the shaft to spin in the flywheel, that needs to be ordered also ...

                        Hang-On ....

The ride is just starting ..

Was going to get a new door, but this used one was a bird in the hand ....

Someone in the past seal the trany so a dry clutch could be used .. Or perhaps an open belt drive .. ??

S&S "Big Foot" sprocket shaft and Carrillo rods may be the next parts that we get to lay an eyeball on .. ??

                                The plan ....

                                Lets go Street Racing ... !! ..
