    Panhead oil pump port identification

I had no problem routing the oil lines to the tank etc, but the previous owner had this little port on the oil pump of my 61 pan and there was a vacuum cap covering it up when I got the engine. Is this something like a chain oiler? I don’t know whether to leave it plugged, vent it, route it somewhere, or delete it or what.

That's where the oil pressure switch goes. Looks like he had plumbed it to provide top end oil, like for a shovel top end.

I find it hard to conceive that a Vacuum cap would stay put with as much oil pressure it would see on a cold start up... !!
.... Much less at running temp ....
Take my 45 and outrun em all ..

That’s why I didn’t even think it could be something like an oil switch, which sees full pressure. I guessed chain oiler or breather or something. Maybe they just stuck this on there to cap it off for storage. I’ll try to find a bolt or something to cap it off.

You may want to put a gauge in there and see if you have any oil pressure.

Listen to this man ,he knows of what he speaks. He is correct , that is where the oil pressure switch was.

LOL A bolt really???? What you need is called an oil pressure gauge if you don't have one......

If you have a gauge buy an oil line plug they make them for that application.........

A bolt will leak and look stupid..............

Actually that’s exactly what I ended up doing this morning. I took the hose barb out of the elbow fitting and screwed in an oil gauge.

without starting a whole new thread, does anyone know if a 48-57 panhead case breather will fit in the later pan motor? I've got the style with a rubber nipple that oils the primary chain. The early style has a 90 degree bend and a metal pipe that I can more easily re-route with a hose away from my open belt.

Here is the bike as it sits now, and here is an earlier photo I happen to have showing the breather as pictured by Dragstews (with the rubber nipple cap removed). I ordered the early style breather last night. Cant do any better for photos at the moment since the bike is squatting in my buddy's garage at the moment.
