Gonna be chopping up a 90 FXST that was wrecked and the swingarm was bent, so figured I'd hard tail it and make it a chopper.
Here's the details and the plan:
1990 FXST stock motor with Branch heads, custom manifold for dual throat Weber carb and some other goodies that the PO told me and I already forgot(bought the drivetrain and frame back in November....)Also has a Primo 6 speed upgrade in the stock 5 speed case.
Going to hardtail it with axle plates from Hardtail Choppers John. Got a 39mm late model dual disk to run up front and may extend that 4-6 inches. 12" T bars from Frontstreet Cycle. Going with a set of 19/16 Morris mag wheels. Will need to get spacers and things made up to make those wheels work... Converting it to chain and maybe an open belt primary. I have a ribbed Wassell style fender lined up and a frisco sporty tank. Running with the softail oil tank for now. Hmmm what else... May get a Morris Magneto if I'm feeling up to it, or more importantly if my bank account is feeling up to it... Oh yeah I got a 2 into 1 thunderheader to run on it. I may try to make my own fairing out of fiber glass although I swore I wasn't going to make anything out of fiberglass again after I finished up the seat on my white bike... Gonna go with a square stock sissy bar probably around the 30" tall mark and have a K&Q seat I'll make and have upholstered. Other doo dads will happen as well I'm sure...
So yeah, that's the plan. I think it will be a pretty tough looking bike but more importantly it's going to be something I can put some long distance miles on.
I finished tearing it apart last night and am going to be starting the hardtail tomorrow night with my friend at his shop. This will be the first hard tail I've put on and we're building it from scratch(except for the aforementioned axle plates). Wish me luck!
Thanks to CC member bpeak for the CAD mockup that I will working towards emulating... I don't have the Paughco frame so I won't be able to meet the exact specs on his drawing but the idea is loosely the same.
