I have an s&s super E shorty that was mounted on a ‘78 shovel stroker motor . It ran fine for a couple weeks and then nothing . The carb was pulled , given to a mechanic for cleaning and returned. Nice , clean and shiny, it was installed back on to the shovel and fired back up . The motor raced Like I had it at an open throttle . Shut it down , checked all outside settings and did not see anything physically wrong with the carb . Backed the idle all the way off and fired the bike up again ... same result . It was like I had that throttle all the way open ... shut it down immediately. Bought a master rebuild kit and rebuilt the carb myself this time . Installed back on the shovel yesterday and had the same results, motor raced like the throttle was all the way open ... not sure where to go from here . Has anyone had this problem with a super E ? Appreciate any input , thanks !
S&S Super E out of control !

The edge of the plate is beveled, and the bevel must seat in the bore when the throttle is closed. You must also center the plate in the bore so it seals completely. Back the idle speed screw off so the throttle closes completely when setting the plate in place. Hopefully these are S&S parts, the aftermarket stuff is junk. Be sure to red loctite AND stake the screws in place when you are done.

Well I will say this , the old timer that rebuilt the carb has worked on Harley-Davidsons and everything that makes the bike run for many , many years ... I really trust the old dude and value all his knowledge.... I rebuilt this carb myself and it’s still acting up ... Another source of information that I truly appreciate is being able to log onto chopcult and get input from all you guys that have been in the same situations and can really shed some light on problems that arise ... I learn something new every time I grab a wrench and put a shovel on my lift .... again , thank youComment

As an old fart I can tell you that I have 'senior moments' every now and again. Luckily I've caught my mistakes and corrected them but wondered how the hell I could have made them in the first place... I know better. So thanks for not judging the dude harshly.Comment
