I added a Poll to see where the count will go ...

Most likely whichever way the tide flows, will be the light I'll use ....

Don't be shy, cast your vote ...

Go black with the chrome ring, I might be bias because I work at a chrome shop,(sick of chrome) i personally think chrome is nice for trim and to accent stuff eg. don't plate hood hinges on a car...just the spring.

I think I tied it up with my chrome vote...

Does anyone remember that one bike mag in the early '80s, think it was Cycle World, which would give the 'Bike of the Year' a 'cloak of chrome' - chrome everything, except tires, seat and handgrips? I saw that and said hey, I got my own bike of the year..then I saw those kids with bmx bikes that had chrome frames, and had to do it;my Amen Savoir framed KZ1000 in 1984; got blinded on sunny days from the flat panels on the coffin tank:

Black Chrome has a cool look to it ...

Harley did use some on a special bike back in the late 70's ...
The XLCR had the horn cover and air cleaner done with it ...
At the time the Mo-Co contracted "Ocala Plating" to do the work...

I like the black w/chrome accents.
Chrome says " You attention whore!"
Black says " Let's go to work"

Actually I like flat black and nickel or brushed alu.

Modern "chrome" pits if you look at it funny. Polished or black surfaces can be easily renewed while replating is usually more expensive than the part. I confine chrome to parts I can cheaply replace.

I just ordered some high temp Cerakote to play with since the stock coating on my Thunderheader promptly failed. My gunsmithbro made an oven out of a steel wall locker which fits rifles and exhausts so I can preheat, coat and bake it conveniently. Check this torch test and feel free to do that to chrome:
