    Yamaha SR250 build

//EDIT: I've just figured out that the bike is actually an SR185, not a 250. I'll change the title if I can figure out how.

This will be my second-ever build. I finished my first, a Kawasaki 454, late last year.

I was bemoaning my son's lack of interest in building a bike with me when my daughter chimed in that she would love to build a bike with me. So hellz yeah, I was gonna make that happen. I spent quite a while looking for something with relatively small displacement and a very small price tag and finally found this guy. The owner insists that it was running a few months ago but had serious wiring problems and a bad coil, neither of which scare me too much.

I talked him down to $100, loaded it into my son's pickup, and brought it home.

LOL. Hopefully, I can get that down to two years or so. Admittedly, it's a little ... rough around the edges.

And, man, look at some of the features on the wiring.

A lamp pull chain, zip-tied to the handlebars.

Reminds me of a story my wife told me. She was living in a apartment and she told
the landlord that her sink was leaking. He just handed her a roll of electrical tape!

Yeah buddy. It's amazing what people do to their motorcycles. It just makes it easier to build your way once you strip off all of these custom touches. Should be an interesting bike to build.

Step one: start stripping stuff off.

Greetings. so I recently took over an abandoned hard tail project from a friend... as I got it, 1980 SR250, the hardtail was done by a professional shop, so its nice and straight and good work. was not real happy with the styling... ordered a wassell style tank, but the top tube design doesnt quite work with the
If buildin' old school choppers was easy, anyone could do it... ain't nobody said it's gonna be easy...
