This tank is a mess and I'm not planning to use it on the bike. Still, it seems like a handy place to try out some paint techniques, so I stripped the old paint off and painted it white.

I was wondering why you didn't try and build some skills on doing body work?????

If it was just the dents, then I'd put it back into shape. But it's not just dents. Someone, sometime, made a really bad job of replacing the original gas filler tube and cap for some reason. It leaks. There are weird bolts and holes patched with either rubber of chewing gum. I don't weld, so fixing this mess requires fabrication way outside of my skill set.

This bike is definitely a chimera of some sort. It was sold as an SR250. The speedo was from an SR250. But the frame and engine turned out to be an SR185.

I ordered new brake shoes but the front shoes didn't fit - they were too small. (The ones that fit - originally labeled JBD-41FG - are listed as being for Yamaha DT400.)

And the front wheel is 18", while the SR185 came with a 17" front wheel. I don't know about the fork tubes, but everything forward of the gas tank is looking like it came from an SR250 (or something stranger.)

If buildin' old school choppers was easy, anyone could do it... ain't nobody said it's gonna be easy...

Pretty sure you're not supposed to see the bearings peeking out at you.

My months' long quest to find a shiny new oil filler cap is finally at an end.
