^^That's gonna leave a mark. I use a small grinder every day with one hand, needless to say I have hit the other hand more times than I'd like to admit, even with a glove on you get beauty marks. Staying out of the line of fire is key.
The disc plane of rotation matters with any rotary attachment. Don't place your face in it like the casualties above, and if you must, wear a face shield hung off a hard hat. Hard hats are better than face shield harnesses because of the way they hang the shield. They clear glasses, ventilate well, helmet harnesses are more comfortable, and the helmet keeps sparks and debris off your head. Use face shields over glasses or goggles. Goggles don't protect your face, they protect your eyes. I wear a shield when using a Dremel too (fucking stranded wire brushes....).
The lightweight 6" cutting discs like the second casualty has in his jaw are why I own a 6" grinder but I use them with light pressure, my grinders for cutting disc use all have guards, and I rarely break discs despite using them frequently. They require a light touch to cut or grind well anyway.

I clamp my work because in grinding as in welding, two hands offer more precise control. If a grinder has power to escape control, add more control. I collect clamps and anything related to workholding.
Don't forget to use birth control. Accidents cause people.
Normally I wouldn't even put something like this up, but being that it has alot to do with my daily activities.. I figured what the hell.
This is what happens if to a manual machinist if you wear long sleeve, baggy clothes to work.
I will tell you in advance This is a series of...
Not real obvious just clicking on the link I gave above, so here are the pics from the link. Graphic, and sobering. Shit happens in an instant, always keep up your guard, and no baggy clothing!:
