Just wondering why the tank split ?
Wouldn't it have been easier th just get a piece of stainless pipe so you wouldn't have to weld the top section ?
Cut it at the angles needed ?

My front end got back from the platers 2 days ago. Polished nickel legs, with all the other hardware in black nickel. Came out great. Here it is all layed out...

Got it put together and on the chop today. Here's an updated photo of the roller. Panhead will be here on Thursday. Doing some more work on my gas tank mounts, oil tank mounts and bungs, and aux fuel tank components this week.

              Still looking very nice.......

I guess I missed it but can I ask why you went from a wish bone down tubes to a later straight leg I see you said you did but I don't see where you explained why???? Is it because you just like the straight leg look better????

              Just wondering? Thanks

I wanted to change it up. Had around 100k miles on the wishbone, plus I wanted to rake the front out a bit as well. No exact reason I went with the straight legs, almost went with a single downtube. Just needed a change and more practice welding and doing major framework.

Been busy on other projects for the chopper, left the auxiliary fuel tank/box unfinished. Still needed to weld the edges, as well as cut out and weld on the bottom of the tank/box. I started by clamping the sides with a vise grip to suck them in closer.

I tacked each edge, then finish welded them

I traced the needed piece to complete the bottom and enclose the rest of the tank/box. I cut it out and cleaned all necessary surfaces(on the cut out piece and the tank) to be welded with a cleaning wheel, then denatured alcohol.

I then finish welded it, completely

I still need to smooth out all of the welds and edges, as well as place and weld in the filler neck/cap. When done, this tank will be placed under my transmission and will provide an extra 1/2 gallon of fuel when needed. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I'll use an inline electrical fuel pump and an inline on/off petcock leading from the aux tank to my main sporty tank. This will allow me to flip a switch to turn the pump on, and turn the petcock to the open position, allowing the fuel to get transferred up. I'll be able to do this on the fly, or on the side of the road. No extra gas canisters needed in my gear bag or strapped to my sissy bar.

Got back on my hummer sporty tank, working on the bottom platform mounts. I figured where I needed to place the bungs in the bottom of the tank, marked the locations, drilled pilot holes, then used a 5/8" hole-saw bit to drill the right sized holes.

I used a sanding tool to get into the holes, enlarge them a bit more so the bungs would slide in easily, and cleaned the inside of the holes so debris and shards wouldn't be hanging in the inside of the tank. I then slid the bungs into each hole and set up the tig welder.

I then tacked each one on both sides first, then finished welding each one while the tacks held them in place

The bottom of the tank with the bungs all welded in. Next up is the platform pieces to form, cut, and weld to the backbone. Those pieces will bolt to these bungs, holding the tank in place.
