More to come, I have to balance the work with the editing, I also have a Yamaha project and two tube amplifier restorations underway competing for time. And, you know, a day job.

The mainshaft has arrived this week from Canada and the bottom end of the engine will be picked up this weekend. The project will be resuming in short order.

Due to issues I was having sucking oil into a valve guide into my rear cylinder I will need to disassembly the top end of my motor. I've decided to document this work as I do with my Yamahas'. Furthermore, I have a tick in the front from an unknown clearance issue that I have the opportunity to address so I can also repair that

The second video has been posted in this thread

Very nice looking work..... It really reminds me of when I restored my 79 FXS......

It's a LOT of hard work.....

Ah, yes.... Its much more evident in the video, in pictures not much by way of context.

I threw the bearing in the freezer for an hour as I staged the press. When I got ready to go, on the first push the bearing fell into the race. Closer investigation showed that this race had seen a degree of bearing spin in its day. Rather than replace it for 50$, I just peened it randomly to bring in the ID for the bearing and lightly coated it with red LT before pressing. A standard repair.

This was completely unnecessary, as the retaining plate captures the outer race of that ball bearing, preventing it ever spinning. The mounting cup or sleeve is not a race, and is normally a slip fit on the bearing. As it is a light press into the case, it will tighten up a little on the OD of the bearing when all is installed in the case. What you did certainly won't hurt anything, but you didn't gain anything either.
