Another Early Pan motor Build ...
This one is a 51 FL
Going with a few up-grades as in a 4-1/2" stroke and a Timken bearing ...
Might be cool to watch it go together .... ??
Y'all up for a motor build or are ya getting a bit burned out with these ... ??

...and share info, specs and upgrades.
'51 FL
"...in 1951. new style tank emblems ,chrome plated piston compression rings and rocker arms were machined with pushrod sockets. In mid 1951 the M-74B carb was introduced along with a larger diameter pinion shaft."
Interesting they referred to the 74c.i. engine as high compression, with 7:1 ratio; using a 3-31/32" stroke and 3-7/16" bore.
How big ya gonna go? Just upping the stroke to 4-1/2" gets 83.5"...Last edited by TriNortchopz; 01-09-2019 at 2:55 PM.

Now what to do to get it out of "THE CRATE FROM HELL" ???
The crate is winning ... !!

When I was building my Sportster I ended up moving from Chicago where the motor was being built to Phoenix. The builder said no probs he would crate it and ship it. I went to get it and got into this circular discussion with the dock forman. Me:" I want to inspect it before I sign for it", him: "I ain't bringing it down till you sign for it", repeat ad nauseam.
Finally I said screw it and signed, the crate was a lot like the one you have, pretty much bullet proof. Good thing too as it was marred and scratched to shit, but the motor was just fine...

Ok ... Time to see what we have to deal with ...
^^ That don't look good ..
Early hardware in late blocks, well, it got em on there ...
All the retard hardware been removed and the mag was locked down at full advance...
That's going back with the retard feature on line again.
Hummmmm .......
Do you see the story this photo is telling .. ??

Funny that you said dat .. !!
Wasn't that long ago I was entertaining the thought of building a "Super Magnum"
Going to put it in the Speed-E-Shift bike ...
After mocking it up and sitting it down in the frame, I gave up the thought..
Being the deck height was .312" taller than the Kunck's, Pan's and Shovel's I would need to rise up the seat post in the frame.... Wasn't about to cut my frame up... No-Sir .... Screw dat !!!
