Keep the tradition.....the engine should be obtained from a lawnmower....without the owners consent. Assuming adult status of said builder, it means you have to take it out of your neighbors machine while he is at work. The most satisfying moment is always the reveal....try to look confused....it's all part of the tradition.

thats what i was thinking as i read the post. we always swiped old garden tiller motors for our go-karts...
I assume a mini bike uses the same centrifugal clutch setup?

Well, I just dated myself....reel mowers or tillers...the principle remains the same...harvest the best part of a utilitarian machine to create something for pure pleasure, then fain ignorance.

All the motors I've used are all centrifugal clutch setups. My first go at a mini bike when I was a kid was taking the motor off my dads lawnmower and trying to hook it up to my bike. Haha!
If you run into problems with old motors the box motors at harbor freight usually fire right up and are pretty decent for the cheap pieces of shit that they are. All set up for centrifugal clutches too. I put one on mine because the tecumseh gave out on me.

It now has a Kawasaki 9hp motor that came from a little wonder blower! The wood chipper could be next...

There is a whole cult following on those HF Predator 212's. Lots of aftermarket parts. You can go mild to wild hopping one up.

Theyre not bad, I have the 79. If you catch them on sale you can usually get the 212 for $99.

                          What's a 79?
After a little digging I found out these are a Honda clone but there is a clone of the clone too. There are two versions of the 212.
Luckily I got the good one.
There are more details to work out then I thought. Including that you can't take off the gas cap because the frame rail is right above it!
It's a really fat cap and I'm hoping one of my spare low-profile caps will work.

Do they make a good throttle linkage set-up (Predator) for a mini bike cable?

KevinN - I see some crazy hop-up stuff including con-rods and flywheels

Lots of info on old mini bikes dot com. There is threads on the throttle linkage. The guys who remove the governor run the billet flywheels and con rods. I haven't run one of these engines myself but have a "hemi" version new in the box. I have an Evo project to finish before I get to it.

HF makes a 79cc version too. If i remember correctly Im pretty sure I got all the throttle linkage from
OMB Warehouse - Go Kart Parts and Mini Bike Parts. OEM and Aftermarket supplier of Outdoor Power Equipment Parts, Arborist and Landscape Supplies.

Not sure if they still stock all the stuff for preds, it was a few years ago.

Mine is the Hemi 212. I may have to put in a jackshaft as the engine is too far right.
Is the 79 a four stroke?
