1979 vin to engine number confusion

That's not the case here (no pun intended). This is just an '82 motor in a '79 frame.

.........and could be verified for year by removing the cam-cover and and observing the "capital-drive-numbers".
That engine could be a matched set of cases.....or just the right-side used as a replacement for an unusable right-case during the bikes life.....

I've also got a 79 FXEF with un matched frame and engine, that are from the Jan-Feb 1979 production group. I was having the title corrected (typo on DMV's part), and when they checked everything to clear it, this came up as a known issue.
