I'm new and dumb
Hello!
Just bought my first bike. Not sure what all the parts are off of, but it's an early pan shovel. I've had it for a couple months and have just been doing a lot of research and looking at pictures and buying parts books I don't quite understand yet.
I don't know anything about fixing (or riding) bikes, but I'm excited to learn and have some fun.
Open to any and all suggestions, ideas, etc.
Thanks and be nice.
christa

welcome to the world of old Harleys. You finally made it to the promised land. Get yourself a FACTORY manual and parts book.If your bottom end is panhead and the top is a shovel, you will need books for each. Your biggest obstacle is going to be fixing all the po's fuckups and jury rigging. If you plan on keeping it treat it with the respect it deserves and don't cut corners and cheap out. Stay the FUCK AWAY FROM TEDS VTWIN!!!! Any part you need is available from honest companies like andrews(cams and tranny parts), jims for crankpins and such or truett and osborn. S&S is good too if they have what you need. Don't be afraid of good used oem stuff either. Remember you will only get out of it what you put in. Junk parts get junk results.

Ya got a good foundation to start off with ....
Your lower end is a 50 to 52 1" taper shaft motor...
Frame is a repop, looks like it might be a Jammer ..
I never liked them all that much cause of the large space between the tire and the tranny...
If it was me, I would load that on eBay and get a Edlund's....
And I can help make that happen ...Last edited by Dragstews; 07-27-2018 at 6:13 PM.

Let's not be so fast with a Judgement ....
Like to see where it goes for a bit longer .. ??
If the girl is truly into taking on this job, kudos to her ...
I know of a Girl in Ca. that was also "New and Dumb" to Harley's ....
Her father is a top wrench and let her grow up in the shop, she took an interest watching her dad work on Harley's ...
You would never guess that her having that interest would lead to her being an ACE working on Harley's today in her dad's shop full time.
I'm talking about Lydia, Phil Long's off-spring at "Knuckleworks" in Long Beach .....Last edited by Dragstews; 07-28-2018 at 6:55 AM.

If I am wrong I will offer a sincere apology to Christa and then take her out for a Mani-Pedi to clean up after all of our filthy wrenching. I am after all a kind considerate thoughtful human being

Just buy a factory service manual & maybe a spark plug wrench & you
are about ready to go.
