‘80 shovelhead basket case: a pile of parts with little direction

So here’s the story I bought this bike from a buddy and when I picked it up he brought it to me in a Camry. No big deal, right? Well now I can build a bike the way I want. Well between then and now I got married bought a house and well got distracted a lot. Recently found out that the wife has a training in southern Minnesota and I want to have the bike to ride for those three days. I have just about a month to get it ready to go. Got to work on it all day today and am gonna try to get the tins ready for paint by next weekend. I’ll do my best to post the pics as I take them but I’m not that good at this documenting thing.

Peg mounts I built in the mornings before work. Picked up the pegs at a swap meet. I’m trying to build as much of this as I can and make do with what I have

Rear master cylinder mount tacked in place. I have a brass bushing a head of it to hold the rod/rod end and make sure when the hacked up pedal pushes on it the plunger will move in a straight line. Probably over complicating things here but it was fun to build

Upper oil bag mount out of 1/4x1 1/4 flat. When I was lining things up to tack it in I noticed then that the mounts on the bag aren’t parallel with the tank. So in making the tank look right it looks like I was blind putting that in. At least the seat will cover it

More precision here: 3/4” 3/8” drive deep well socket is the perfect spacer. The mount is 1x1x3/16 angle and then a 3/16” thick tab bolts to that to the bottom mount

Crappy pic of how I left it for the day. Tanks and dash are on there for mock up. Still need to plumb, wire, mount battery, make shifter peg, mount rear fender(flat fender mounted to the swing arm), make a seat, finish the front axle, mount all the brakes, exhaust, carb. I’m sure there’s much more I’m forgetting but that’s what comes to mind.

Anyone have any experience with anti gravity batteries? I have one to install but I’m worried about frying it with the wrong regulator. I emailed anti gravity and they sent me to RMStator who when given the info that this is an ‘80 74” HD shovelhead asked for year make and model. So I said it was a 1980 Harley Davidson FX and then they told me to use a regulator for an ironhead. So I gave up trying. Anyone use an anti gravity with a cycle electric regulator?
