idle adjustment screw sparking on oil pushrod tube

I just went to start my bike and after running for maybe 5 seconds I noticed smoke coming up from the engine. looked around to find my idle adjustment screw knob sparking on the pushrod tube. Has this happened to anyone else? suggestions/ideas as to what could be causing this?

    thanks everyone

you nailed it! I swapped out the fastener screws in my stock switch housing earlier today..it turned out to be the bottom one causing it. whats weird is it only creates a positive charge if fully tightened, I loosened it up a couple turns and no more charge. thanks a bunch Dragstews!

First, I would like to say, thats an exceptional photo you posted! captures the sparks and all!

Secondly, many people like to say "All electrical problems are fuel related and all fuel problems are usually electrical!" Illustrating the 2 mindsets for trouble shooting. But you made my day with both together! (planets aligned)

Glad you got the problem sorted, and made my day with this posting. THANKS!

At Precision Castparts Airfoils division, I knew an attractive young blond woman who was also an exceptional TIG welder, One day she confided that she LIKED getting zapped,, Showed me how too, Would lean fwd on the weld table and contact just the nipples and actuate the foot pedal just enough to give quite a tingle. She literally was doing the chicken shaking and quivering, shut it off, turned to me and smiled and said ,,,,,,,,,,Ahhh,, that was nice!,..... If I wasnt married I would have been intrigued to where a relationship with her would have gone.

Everyone has their hobbies! Some literally and figuratively, are just on their own frequency!

I was very interested of course, and she told me it started with 9v batteries when young and evolved from there. But how fortunate she ended up in a trade where she can indulge at will.

Shouldn’t the op still be concerned why it only does it when the screw is tightened up? IT could randomly make contact and spark at an inopportune time ( like when you are getting gas”. I don’t like sparking outside my engine.

It would be wise to use a shorter screw, lest the long one wander back into contact...

thanks for the responses everyone. I realize I haven't fixed the short, but it'll do for now as I am planning to rewire to micro switches in the next couple of weeks.
