I got the springs for the seat. I made the choice of "heavy duty" springs 4 inches.
The top and bottom of the springs were not flat. I decided to sand part of that bottom and top coil flat.
Sits much better now on the spring boss on the seat.
I do not remember previous seat springs having that problem.
Anyway I pay attention to it now after seeing another builder showing sanding the springs top and bottom.
I do not have the spring perch that welds onto the frame. It is stuck in the mail somewhere. should be here next week.
Meanwhile... I pumped some oil through the engine and turned it over a few times.
I hate to see it sit.Last edited by Luky; 12-08-2018, 1:32 PM.Comment

I decided that the stock exhaust headers stuck out too far from the side and
bought different ones that I thought would have a slimmer profile.
This is the stock header. You can see how far the rear header sticks out.
This is the slimmer look.
The seat was waiting for the frame bungs the seat springs sit on and today they are supposed to be here. So now I can finish that little project.
Next will be the hardest part. The positioning of the foot rests.
Seat spring bungs still not here. Mail truck crashed in the snow?
Wished I could go to my local motorcycle aftermarket store and buy the parts I need.
12:30 Wednesday. Seat spring frame bungs arrived in the mail!Last edited by Luky; 02-25-2019, 4:13 PM.Comment

While I was waiting for the seat spring frame bungs I did a test fitting of the front forks and front wheel and put the weight of the motorcycle on the front suspension. There was not much difference between no weight on the front wheel and all the weight of the motorcycle on the front suspension. The motor cycle only had to go up about 1/4" for the front axle to line up in the center of the front wheel. These were 22" DNA forks. (Stock length for Harleys.)
Click on photo for larger view.
Bottom line: Motorcycle wil sit with frame level when weight of motorcycle is on the front forks.Last edited by Luky; 05-10-2019, 9:19 AM.Comment

I am now making changes to the rear fender.
I needed to remove some of the metal on the back edge of the rear fender so that
the rear wheel could be moved all the way to the end of its travel in the frame axle slot
so that the chain could be adjusted its full travel.
I mounted the fender so that the fender can be removed from the bike without removing the rear wheel.
I also was able to finally able to establish the position of the foot rests
now that the seat was in place and the exhausts were bolted on.
I will be able to complete that after the holidays are over.Last edited by Luky; 02-25-2019, 4:16 PM.Comment
