The back half mod may not have fucked the handling at all. Of course the front did but such is life.

Stock rear FXR suspension geometry is not anything close to special. It's typical short travel HD shit, as crappy as Sportsters but with a longer wheelbase, which means it's quite possible that the mod didn't negatively affect handling. Shovel rear suspension sucks too of course, but the "good parts" of an FXR frame are the rigidity and rubber mounting. Rigidity/CG/steering geometry produce the handling advantage over the usual HD shit frames.

Anyone really serious can just repop the whole frame. Anyone not serious doesn't need one. Race quality Rob North replica frames (a far more advanced frame than the FXR) for TriBSA triples exist because the market supports them. So do new repop Norton Featherbed frames.

So do Edlund frames for vintage big twins, and to judge by Dragstews pics they are built to a higher standard than the originals.
