Sure, after you replace all the worn out shit and go five finger and keep it adjusted they work, do they pull like a primo? No. Do they adjust as easily or quickly as a primo? No. I take my shit apart a lot, fuck stock clutches.Comment

I highly recommend the diaphragm clutch conversion that is available,...
I have fitted them to two Shovelheads and a smaller version on my 45 Magnum,....
they give you a one finger clutch that is smooth in operation and is fairly cheap,... About $135.
On my last build I also used a Ten Finger Clutch Hub, Big Fix Bearings and a Period DPD Hydraulic Clutch kicker cover.

Belleville spring .... ^^
The new generation ....
What makes that spring so good over the coil springs of yesteryear is it's ability to give even pressure all the way around the 360 degrees of the clutch pack ...
Diaphragm clutch spring pressure plate includes 5-stud clutch, diaphragm spring, pressure plate, rollers, adjustment screw, and stud nuts.
Updates old style coil spring clutch to new style diaphragm clutch for positive clutch engagement.
Fits: Special application with open or closed primaries..

The introduction of Norton's Commando series in 1968 had several great changes, including: "an entirely new clutch design from the earlier Norton twins. Designed by Laycock Engineering, the new design featured a diaphragm style spring," http://preservationcycle.com/index.p...86&Itemid=1739
"At launch, the very early models came with conventional multiplate wet clutches. But these were soon replaced in production with diaphragm clutches." http://www.classic-british-motorcycl...-commando.htmlIf buildin' old school choppers was easy, anyone could do it... ain't nobody said it's gonna be easy...Comment

The Belleville washer spring on later Harleys is what birthed those conversions. Thank famous Norton engineer John Favill for bringing them from the Norton to the HD world. If you catch his lectures at Norton meets they are entertaining and informative.
Too bad Norton didn't copy HD trans instead of the delicate fossil they used.Last edited by farmall; 01-20-2018, 1:22 PM.Comment
