Umm, good guesses so far it seems... before I take my guess, can I get another clue; do you have any other pictures?
Here is a page with a Bultaco 250 / 350 tank (9th photo) that has some pointed front mounts, that could be close: http://www.zeppy.io/discover/us/vintage-gas-tank
Is this a contest ? Is there a prize for the winning guess?

I followed TriNort’s link and found this one down the page. This is probably it. Shape and tabs looks correct.

I Don't think it's the AMF tank,... they are much bigger than the one on the bike you showed I think,... and the front mount looks different,.... did you look at the Fantic tanks,...I think if I remember they have a screw on gas cap as well.....

Looks like fuel tap is in the right place - too bad there are no photos without the cap...plus the faded HD logo on the OP's first photo... I sent an info request to Custom Cycle Engineering (their logo is in the background of photo 2), we'll see if they reply.

I noticed on the Fantic Chopper tank, fuel tap is on the right.

the tap could have been moved though,....
the bike is a 45 with ohv conversion but the frame is standard 45,
so is this pic fitted with a standard 1957 Small sportster tank,....
the AMF tank you looked at on ebay is as long as the Sportster tank, 100% sure it's not the one you want,
also on the AMF tank, the front fix is a Hook in type NOT a hole through the bracket type like the one in your picture,...
the more I look at it the more I am thinking Fantic.............

Ebay (overseas, not just CONUS) or get very lucky at a swap meet. Those old Fantics are collectible.
