    Default Shovel tranny questions

hey, I'm collecting parts for a shovel build. I'm not too familiar with the mechanical or operational differences between the ratchet top and rotary top trannys. wondering about application, if either will work with a shovel, which might be better, and if either of them can run with either jockey or foot shift. thanks.

Either of them can be run on a shovel, just need to get the driveline alignment right. Some of the rotary top were meant for belt drive rear, so had a different offset from the ratchet top. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Not sure if anyone makes a jockey shift for the rotary top, but you could most likely fabricate something without too much trouble.

ratchet tops seem to be all the rage these days, the cowpie (rotary) tops can have some fitment issues with certain oil tanks and the actual shifting mechanism is a plate not a drum which can be very tricky to dial in if it stops shifting well
