Shock options for 1984 to 1988 Softails

The 1984-1988 softails with the reservoirs are apparently different than the 1989-1999 versions.
From what I've read, the canister is larger in the later versions, and the transmission plate on the earlier ones prevents the use of the later shocks on earlier softail models.
Progressive used to make some but it looks like they stopped.

Does anyone know if there's some shocks that will fit these models? My 1988 ones are all clapped out and short of finding a pair off someone elses bike with 40k+ miles already on it I'm SOL.

It lkooks like these guys can source the left hand shock at least, but they have the availability message of "call us" for the right. I haven't seen that on their site before, but they may be able to scare one up for you.

But I think OEM is your only option, as it seems progressive doesn't have anything for you.

    Hope that helps a bit!

Can you mod the frame to take later shocks?
