    Newbie, help with 84 VT700!

    What’s up dudes,
Bought a 84 Shadow VT700c for $300. All I had to do was throw a battery in it and it runs and rides. Well, for the most part. It will drive fine with giving it smooth even throttle but as soon as I try to get on it it just bogs down, I’m guessing it either needs the carbs cleaned or a buddy suggesteClick image for larger version

Also I know there’s threads abou chopping the wiring harness and anything else extra on the bike that can me taken off if someone can point me in that direction that would be awesome!
Thanks everyone!Click image for larger version

Clean the carb if it has two clean them both..... Then buy a manual if you don't have one for the wiring...... That's where you start...........

Get or download a factory manual. Shadow forums may have what you need.

Don't fuck with anything cosmetic until it runs well.

Clean the fuel system and carbs, and I mean soaking not spray cleaner.

Perform a cold compression test and note readings. Examine spark plugs.

Thanks to a friend I was able to do a compression test. 145 on the back, 80 on the front. If it makes a difference it does have open pipes.

Also gets good spark. Been running carb cleaner through the gas but am planning to actually take them off and clean them.
