    Back In The Day - 70's & 80's

So I have noticed we have a few, umm, mature riders on the forum. The other day I stumbled on a cache of my old photographs and thought I would post a bunch up. If you have some period pictures please post them up. These are all from the mid 70's to the late 80s and almost all of them are in Arizona.

So let's start with the ladies of Doom.

Here is the first Mrs. Doom

I don't have any pics of people and bikes.... Just a few of my bikes.... If you want just people with bikes let me know and I will pull it....

This is my first Harley and my first build in the early 70s.... I think 73 or 4....

That Pan belongs to one of my best buds. One day in the 90's the current Mrs Doom and I were going to a costume party as Brando and Murphy from the "Wild Ones". My bike was in pieces so, half as a joke I told Mike I needed to borrow his bike so we could win the costume contest. Without a moments hesitation he said sure! So I left him my car and rode the Pan home.

Unfortunately it rained the night of the party so I left the bike at home. Next day I drove it back to his house but he failed to leave the keys in my car. No problem, I threw a leg over the Pan, kicked it once and the damn carb burst into flames which quickly engulfed the engine.

By the time I found a hose, hooked it up, and put the fire out, the paint was toast, and the seat and wiring were gone. I walked the 2 miles to where he worked, he took one look at me, scorched beard and all, and without missing a beat said, "I forgot to tell you the carb leaks! Well I wanted to repaint it anyhow."

He would only take enough money from me to cover the damaged parts. We lost touch when he moved out of state, I often wonder how he is doing. He was just one of those people who would literally give you the shirt off his back.

Well, although I wanted a Harley in the worst way motorcycles were not allowed in my house. Not because of bias , just cause mom wanted her sons not to die while she was alive. Dad went with it to keep the peace. HOWEVER ! Drag racing and drinking were a perfectly acceptable loophole so hot rodding cars were in !!!
My older brother became the hot rod mechanic in our neighborhood at a time when muscle cars were cheap and plentiful . Being my other two older brothers had no interest , I became the helper or be punched out. I'm glad it turned out that way cause our house became hot rod central. I learned a lot and bought my first car , a 1968 GTO for $250.00 . It had a chrome nose and a 350 Pontiac ( yes , they were 1968 only options ). We promptly replaced that with a 350 chevy and turbo 350 tranny from ( if I remember correctly) a 1969 Camaro. Had that car for 13 years and only sold it after I got into bikes and needed a work van ( mom passed in 1989, I moved out and I started riding in 1990 ) . I borrowed my brothers bikes for a few years before getting my first HD.

Love it, one of the serious badass years for Pontiac, I got the 1st Mrs Doom a '68 LeMans which ended up jacked up in the back with big fat rubber and little skinnies on the front. Ended up sideswiping a salt truck from behind. The spreader opened up the drivers side like a can opener. Good times, good times......hotrods are an essential part of this time period so they are fair game for this thread.....now I need to find some of mine....

That's my 1967 I had for a couple of years also in the backround.
Almost done there , waiting on the hood scoops , tach cover and rear spoiler to come back from the painter.
I actually prefer the chrome nose , still do.
Wound up it was a 3:36 posi rear.
Those words were written by a very proud young man , probably no more than 17.
I worked my ass off on and for those cars . My family had 6 kids. My dad had a good job but you can't make enough with that many kids. I paid for everything
Myself . Cars, parts , insurance , gas , college.
Thanks dad for the roof over my head so I didn't have to worry about
                          Food and rent.
