Yep even with the much stronger later cases... That must have been a loud one when it came apart....

It’s in Welding Jesus’s hands now but he’s really good so I’m optimistic seems to be a lot of Jesus’s involved in this project to bring this thing back from the dead ha ha Ha

Why don't ca give him a little more work and shave the left flywheel ... ???

Your not going to be pulling a side hack, a trailer or riding Bertha around ...
            (Well maybe Bertha ??)

So that would lessen torque a bit, but give snappier throttle response?

Thought I’d gear it tall so when I hit the hiway I’m not wringin it’s neck to maintain 70mph. I may need that torque...

How do you feel about that “N” cam?

Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to chime in!

As long as ya got a motor that's capable of pulling tall gearing....
You would be more able to do that with a larger cube motor ...

With tall gearing running 74 cubes ... Your going to be working that motor pretty dog-gone hard...
With what I call a baby stroke of 4-1/2" will get you 10 more cubes...Keeping the bore that your at now...

On the cam, you will be alright with that, although my choice would had been a Leineweber...

A 23T pinion and a 23T trans is a nice all around combination but I don't think I would run 70mph for any length of time with any gear combo on that motor...

Well the opinion of those who know is that this motor shouldn’t be pushed too hard....thats fine don’t wanna spend $$ then blow it up.

The guys who have Knuckles that I ride with don’t go 70 on the hiway if they do hiway at all...

Until I blew up my Panhead I was able to go 75 sometimes hit 80 but we all know how that ended so maybe I shouldn’t have ridden it that hard my 69 Shovel I’d beat the living hell out of that thing 75-80 from Gas station to gas station no problems runs like a top basically the same lower end as the knuckles and pans so I guess the top and must be the weak link?

I’m not a total meathead I have a sense of when the motors running out of steam amd the overall bike isn’t happy at that speed so that’s why I only go 80-85 tops on my shovel cause that’s where it starts to be unhappy...

No sir, the bottom end on a flat side Shovel is very different than a Knuck or early Pan....

Pardon my ignorance I kind of knew that there was a bearing change sometime in the mid 50s to make the left or right side stronger I forget maybe going from a roller style to Torrington? maybe I should read some more ha ha Ha

Maybe this coincided with creation of interstate highways and the ability to go fast and thus Necessitated stronger motors no more putting around at 45 on dirt roads on the knucklehead but you could actually go 60+ on your Pan or Shovel?

Got a part number for the points in those? Maybe can retrofit in a Indian distributor as they run the same cap the Indian should be the same diameter?
