Let me see your Tail Light / Lic plate setup.

Putting a flat fender on my bike. Not seeing alot out there that I like in the way of License plate brackets and Tail lights. Help me get some ideas.

I like the look of side mount, but I have to ride in a lot of traffic, I should probably keep the tail light on the fender.

My interpretation of flat fender and side mount brake/tag, got it from Road 6 Customs, can be mounted on the axle but I wanted it a little higher to be seen & keep the wires short.

If you have a sportster, you could do the Gasbox mount that goes off the primary. I am running that right now and I like it. Keeps it tucked in a bit and is different than the typical 32 ford tail light and plate off the axle (nothing wrong with that setup, just see it a lot)

Made a bracket from some 22x8 mm flat bar (well actually it is made from re-used iron horse shoes!)

Have been using zip ties for a few years on several bikes. Why over think it that's my theory.

cut down FMA mount, and put in a LED cluster

It's not going to stick out any more than your leg does.
