I have a good news update. I got the v twin kicker gear in and installed it, put the basket back in, and i have great / perfect engagement. i put the whole clutch back together and everything, still kicking perfectly. no slipping. lesson here...dont mix oem and v twin.....and dont fuck up your bushings.

Yeah the kicker gear definitely needs to be a slip fit on the spacer, the spring is so lightweight its surprising it even pushes out to engage.

also follow satan, i just realized i follow u on instagram, that red ironhead of yours was so fucking sick. definitely influenced my build a bit -

I feel like this thread deserves a bit of an update today.

I actually just finished up going back through my clutch to replace all of the v twin parts. The kicker was slipping so bad it was unusable. So I bought some OEM parts and used an OEM clutch basket w/ OEM ratchet gear, changed the kicker gear, the large kicker gear, the kicker shaft, the kicker gear spacer, and the kicker gear thrust washer.

Bike engages on every kick since the install and I feel a lot more confident in it. If I had to do it all over again I would not use the v twin parts in the first place. I would recommend anyone who is interested in installing a kicker on an xlh to use OEM xlch kicker parts and clutch baskets. it isnt worth the hassle and the vtwin stuff did not last for me.

I realize this thread is almost 2 years old but here i am putting a kicker on my 79 with the v twin kit (i already paid for it might as well give it a go)
is the clutch sprocket gear spacer supposed to fit inside the clutch bearing? mine does not not sure if this is right

A 79 is an odd ball year bike.... Did the kit you bought say it will fit a 79?

Yeah but the fitment dates have been wrong before. Just checking to see if the spacer is supposed to fit inside the bearing or if i should get a new bearing that allows it

No, it doesn't fit inside the bearing.
It sits on the inner race of the bearing ...
