Default How should i finish a moded air cleaner?

I got a good deal on a perforated air cleaner cover i dig, but its for a shovel i think. Anyway, im just gonna redrill the holes and open up the opening for my cv. Its magnetic so its not stainless or aluminum and its chromed. How should i dress the new holes and new wider lip? I was thinking a little spray galv applied with a qtip. Better ideas? Will my chrome peel?

you can tape the whole thing before holes are drilled, both sides, drill new holes, sand/clean any burrs, then spray with rustoleum chrome with the tape on,remove tape shortly after painting, clean the whole ac then spray the whole thing with a clear coat. That should seal the edges so they resist moisture getting behind the chrome. Only time will tell how it holds up but should last a while.

    Chrome sucks.
Sand blast the whole thing. It looks way more groovy and won't tarnish or corrode if you seal it with some flat clear.

You can powder coat right over the chrome and get some incredible colors in two coat.

I am a huge fan of VHT engine enamel clear. I have used it on a lot of parts both over paint and bare metal or chrome with fantastic results.

Yer just drilling and cutting the backing plate yes?
A little nailpolish if you really want, but i don't think it's even necessary...
the only concern is how you support the backing plate/carb. Just make sure it stays on
