    Wiring Starter Motor

I have a '10 sportster 48 i am in the process of rewiring from scratch. I have the rest of the circuit down but cannot get the starter motor to crank. Since running into trouble I have removed the rest of the wiring and am focusing on just getting the starter to fire. I am running a remote button mounted directly on the starter solenoid so I believe there is no need for the starter switch relay and am wiring it as follows.

    Button mounted on solenoid.
    Battery to starter +
    Starter - to frame ground

When I hit the button I get nothing. Still getting a solid 10v on the battery so I feel like something should be happening. Starter worked last summer fine while we were putting 10k miles on the bike.

    what did I do wrong

How much voltage under a load? Not really.... It takes a lot to engage.....
