    Default Opinions on Ironhead build

I might get lit up for this, but I just wanted to take a poll. I recently bought an 81 ironhead already hard tailed and in decent condition. Half of me wants to put some long fork tubes and the other half wants me to put a -2 vintage big twin springer and apes on it. I was wondering if you guys think its taboo to build a sporty to look like a big twin. Not a stock big twin obviously, but most bikes I see with a short vintage springer are knocks, pans, or shovels. I just don't want to be THAT guy who people think I'm trying to pass my iron off as a big twin. Let me have it, what do you guys think?

A Sportie has always been a Harley's straight from the factory "Hot Rod" lean and mean....

By intalling a Big Twin Fork that is wide just seems to rub the cat the wrong way with me....

But..... If ya do a narrow to one .... Well ya just went into the Super Custom look with your build...

Build it the way you want.

    You ask for opinions....
It don't matter what others says about the looks, your not building it to please them....
The only one you need to please is yourself .....

I wouldn't throw excess money into an Ironhead because at the end of the day, it's still an Ironhead and every dollar into an Ironhead is money which could go towards a big twin. That's a common mistake. I like apes for comfort.

If you are gonna flip the bike eventually you'll make more by doing thorough cosmetics and detailing than major component replacement for cosmetics.

Your bike, your call, do the math to compare your options.

I run wide glide fronts ends on my sporty. I think it looks good and fuck those who do not like it. Click image for larger version.

Don't listen to anyone who will tell you not to "waste" your money on an Ironhead. Do whatever you want. As far as making it look like a big twin, go for whatever is comfortable to ride for you. A lot of chops in the late 60's and 70's were Sporty based, so don't think that you have to be chopping up a shovel to be chopular. Run what ya brung! Check out zzchop for some inspiration.
