    Default Ultima El Bruto Motors?

How do you all feel on them? I've heard guys call them junk, I've heard guys say they have gotten 50K hard miles out of them. They are almost half the money of an S&S, and make about the same power.

I have no experience with them, but I'll state the obvious and say you get what you pay for. Personally I would buy a used HD mill and spend the rest on hot rodding it. You'll still be at the cost of the Ultima with tried and true parts. YMMV.

Korean metallurgy and quality control is a crap shoot. Fact not feel.
How many negative things have you heard about S&S? Not a one.
I feel you should buy American.

Seems to me that they have serious engineering problems let alone questionable manufacturing, flipped piston:

You can also build or have built a capable short or long block using aftermarket cases. I suggest doing a couple of spreadsheets to compare all the numbers.

Since it's a toy, there should be no pressure to build it with questionable parts. I'd rather have less hp and more reliability if I had to make the tradeoff.

Is it one of the newer Ultima's? Also did you have to do anything to put it in the FXR frame?

Yeah its 4 years old or so. I bought it from a widow that held on to it after her husband died....it was new in the crate.
It fit right in the FXR untouched.

I just bought a used 113" S&S BUT I was looking at putting an Ultima in my fxr before this... I feel like there's a lot of negative reviews floating around out there based on here-say but there are a ton of positive testimonials from actual owners .

Also for that 120, did the exhaust bolt right up?

no i don't think so. It makes just over 42 lbs of oil pressure at 3000 rpm 5th gear interstate cruising. I am running an oil cooler, as well as a dipstick thermometer and the temps stay in line with my buddy's 95" twin cam. Not sure if it makes much difference, but Im also running a bagger transmission that holds an extra quart of oil over the stock FXR tank, and its also below the bike rather than behind the motor so it doesn't see the engine heat.

Sweet, thanks for the info! I'm going to go pick up a 120" tomorrow new for 2800 minus a carb. What Mikuni are you using?

There early engines have a bad rep. I've heard they have come a long way over the past few Still for the price it is not a bad deal.

Well I did it, picked up a Ultima 120 NEW for 2800 here in MO.

    Now I need a Mikuni 45 & a clutch!

Also I wonder how goofy this polished motor will look next to my black primary and black tranny.

I'm running a 48mm mikuni but I'm sure the 45 will be fine. ( pretty sure thats what they used to supply them with)
As far as clutch, I'm running a stock clutch from a twitcam (99-06 i think) with an AIM centrifugal lock up added on to it. That way i have the clamping force needed but a super light lever pull as well.

Did you buy the 120 for that price from a dealer? or second hand but never installed? Thats a super killer deal.
