Default STD Panhead Chop Job ....

Going to be a long thread....

Motor is going to see a few more cubes added to it.
    Starting with a bare re-pop wish-bone frame.
Harley springer up front .. (Re-pop)

    This tranny .../// http://www.chopcult.com/forum/showthread.php?t=47705 \\\...

Some goodies came in today for it....

Tranny is being raised in the frame so a few other parts are needed..
Being we are shooting for the early 50's look thoughts are to used most parts that was around back in those years...
The above oil tank is a remake of the Harley TT tank that V-Twin makes...

    .../// https://youtu.be/IRyJqyJ1sho \\\...

Must remove the Oil Tank frame mount and weld it back on...
Was going to save the old one but just went ahead with buying a new mount ...

Other V-T parts that was on the same order was the front Finned Brake Drum (Got a Twin leading shoe backing plate on the way) and Rocker Clutch ....

Rocker mount will see a trip to the Chrome shop, we have a Lee's peddle for it....

Must say for re-pop stuff.... These are just as well made and a exact copy as what the Mo-Co made....
(Every now and again V-T gets lucky) ....

    I'm loving these cases....
Super beefy in a word !
A great foundation for a big inch motor.

Has a early S&S cast oil pump on it... owner said it worked great so we will be reusing it.
Going to pull the motor apart today and see what all there is to see....
A lot of stuff won't be reused ...

Being we are bumping up the cubes to 96" the crank is on that list, hope to be able to reuse the pinion shaft and perhaps the sprocket shaft.... Not all that sure about the sprocket shaft..??
Wanting to use a shaft that does have the key in it.... S&S makes their wheels with the key-way, being I'm seeing most S&S parts (Jugs and Pump) on the outside, just may have their wheels and that key'ed shaft in it...

    Soon to find out .....

Here's a cool top tree for a springer....

    Well Sir....

Got the top-end off and found all S&S stuff inside the critter...
Still can see the crosshatch in the bores, got the Old TRW stroker pistons that are Std size... No ware is showing on them...
Rods are tight as day one on the pin... S&S flywheels

Shoot .. Dang motor is looking like less than 10,000 miles been put on...

The jugs, pistons, flywheels and rods will be finding a new home being the 96" up-grade will need diff parts...

    ___________________________________________

Cleaned up the bores a little, did a ball hone to them and found a bit of ugly in the front jug...

Bike must have sit for a coon age, being close to the bottom of the bore was rust trying to get a bite....

Most likely it would run ok but for a perfect bore, guess I would take it .010 over...

Trying to off his unneeded parts to help offset the high cost of the new hi-dollar parts, but will most likely be only a drop in the bucket...!!!

    4-5/8" S&S flywheels (SE Type)
    3-5/8" Big Bore Kit.
    Carrillo H-Beams Rods.
S&S Breather Valve with a Don Hotop air ramp.
Morris G-5 Snap Mag in Polish finish.
    1939 Smooth Cam Cover.

^^^ That's pretty much all for the lower end...

Top end stuff will be ...
KPMI .600 Valve Lift Racing Springs using Titanium Retainers
Shovel intake Black Diamond valves, 23* Tulip
Exhaust will also be Black Diamond, 29* Tulip

Just the common Hot-Rod stuff that helps to keep the motor together under abuse... (Playing Hard)

Sure seems to be headed that way....

Say, have you heard that Spike has started production with the Pan heads (Just the heads) ...
Their making both the Oem type with the T manifold and exhaust pipe ports of the day and the Pan head of the Shovel type with the Y manifold and Shovel exhaust pipe mount.... Both heads uses the clam shell Oem arms...

that valve spring tool is NEAT. i had one that looked like a reloader. any prices on the new heads ? i took a fit yesterday and put my std pan heads on the nosecone shovel chopper i'm building. they are opened up for 3 5/8 cylinders but i put them on stock jugs. i came up with what i hope are simple, cheap, easy spacer rings. hope it works.

On the ring deal for going from 3-5/8" to 3-1/2" sounds like a good idea, I've been welding up and re-machining to do that....
A lot of work doing it that way, the ring would be so simply and easy... (If it works out..??)
