I dunno ride what you like I guess. Stock modern Harleys are already so top heavy I'm curious as to how they'd actually handle with 20 inch apes. But, alot of people consider my 12 inch apes and suicide shift stupid and dangerous too so can I really judge? From an aesthetic standpoint I think stock bikes can look alot better with simple mods like apes and pipes. But a softail or swingarm bike with a sprung seat will now and forever be gay. It already has suspension. You have no need of seat springs. The same thing I told the salesmen who tried to sell me a "crossbones" for 8 trillion dollars last time I wandered through a showroom.

Heres mine. I'm 6'1" and have been riding this for 5 years with 16" apes on it and probably will forever. If you don't like it, don't look at it. If you care what others are riding you have issues that can't be helped. ride what you like as much as you can and don't worry about it.

My dad rides a softail with bags and apes.. I see no problem.. He's happy, and I'm willing to bet he'd politely wave to you if you pulled up next to him. To laugh and ride off seems kind of messed up.. He has his little bobber, and the sportster we're building. However, he's most comfortable on his big bike. Granted I can agree loud music and bright colors all for show can get really annoying and "poser"ish, ya gotta admit, as stated above.. the hardtailed sporty with a younger guy / flannel 3/4 helmet blah blah blah.. I like the style.. but its everywhere. Just let em be.

See, I like to have my dad riding the bagger on trips... that way if we're there for a weekend i can stuff a shirt in one of the bags.. or a hoodie in case we ride later at night..

True, yes....however, I think it's safe to assume that the O.P was referring to "reach for the sky" apes, and the "gangster" styled Softails and Roadkings. Yours doesn't really fit either category.

I think the entire thread is fucking retarded, and I'm surprised it didn't hit the Junk Pile like a speeding bullet.

apehangers dont make softails any gayer than they already inherently are.thats why im running bags and a tour pack on mine.makes the apes more cohesive

I've got a crossbones I picked up a couple months back and I had a set of custom 12 inch (1.25 diameter) bars made and I think they look pretty sick. Profile pic shows them. So I will have to disagree on no apes for softails. To each his own and a bike should be original and show your personality anyhow.
